The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) contractor will continue work to replace the bridge on East Broad Street (Route 250) over I-95 in the City of Richmond. This work is being completed during a series of weekend closures.

Weather permitting, the next weekend closure is scheduled for Friday, May 17 at 8:00 p.m. through Monday, May 20 at 6:00 a.m. The northbound and southbound travel lanes of I-95 at mile marker 74, will be reduced to one lane in each direction continuously. Broad Street in both directions at the bridge over I-95 will also be closed through the weekend. Pedestrian access on Broad Street will remain available.

In addition, motorists can expect the following closures:

  • Exit 74B (I-95 South to Franklin Street)
  • Westbound ramp from Broad Street to I-95
  • Ramp from Broad Street to I-95 South

Future closure dates for the impacted weekends will be communicated as the project progresses.

Detours will be implemented to direct motorists around the work zone. Motorists traveling through the Richmond area should use I-295, I-195, Route 288, and Route 1/301 to avoid significant delays.

The project utilizes Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) methodologies to reduce onsite construction time safely. ABC consists of building the new bridge off-site and replacing a section of the old with a newly constructed section of the bridge.
