The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) advises motorists to prepare for heightened travel activity surrounding the Fourth of July holiday, emphasizing safety as families embark on outings for cookouts, fireworks displays, and other summer festivities.

To ensure smooth traffic flow during this period, VDOT will suspend numerous highway work zones and lift the majority of lane closures on interstates and major roads across Virginia from noon on Wednesday, July 3, through noon on Friday, July 5.

Although temporary lane closures will be lifted across most areas, drivers should remain aware of ongoing semi-permanent work zones that will continue to be active. Stay informed about travel conditions by monitoring VDOT’s Travel Advisories for the latest updates in your vicinity and statewide.
