The Virginia Department of Transportation reports that crews building the 10-mile extension of 95 Express Lanes in the median of Interstate 95 have planned to stop all northbound and southbound traffic overnight as construction continues this winter on the Fredericksburg Extension project.
Starting tonight, January 9, crews will need to stop all I-95 traffic up to 30 minutes at a time between midnight and 3:00 a.m. to safely complete work near the exit 133 (Route 17) and exit 140 (Courthouse Road) interchanges in Stafford County.
Weather permitting, I-95 northbound and southbound will be reduced to one lane each evening ahead of the 30-minute traffic stops beginning tonight through early Friday, January 13.
After each full traffic stop, congestion will be allowed to clear.
Drivers should expect overnight delays with the intermittent stoppages.
The 95 Express Lanes extended facility from south of exit 143 (Route 610) to the vicinity of exit 133 is expected to open to traffic in late 2023, with project completion in spring 2024.
