The Maine Turnpike Authority will be having nighttime traffic stoppages this week to preserve public safety for two different projects on the Turnpike.

In Falmouth, on the Falmouth Spur, there will be traffic stoppages at the toll plaza between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. through Thursday nights. The purpose of the stops is so that contractors can erect overhead signs as part of the conversion of the plaza to an Open Road Toll (ORT) plaza. When complete, the ORT plaza will allow E-ZPass users to pass through the toll at highway speeds, while preserving the option to safely pay cash at toll booths to the right. This Falmouth project is part of the Maine Turnpike Authority’s overall plan to convert all of the mainline toll plazas to ORT. When the plaza opens this summer it will be the third ORT plaza on the Turnpike.

In Gray, as part of the improvement of the Exit 63 Interchange, contractors will be removing the old bridge across the Turnpike on Wednesday and Thursday night between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. This will involve traffic stops of up to 25 minutes while the structural steel is removed.

The schedules of both of these projects is subject to change if there is inclement weather.
