A new traffic pattern on Interstate 95 southbound at Exit 133 (Route 17) in Stafford County will go into effect early tomorrow, October 8, and a traffic diversion is scheduled overnight on I-95 northbound as work continues to build the new Truslow Road overpass.
Starting at 7:00 p.m. tonight, October 7, crews will work to place the temporary traffic signals at I-95 into full color operation and close the two existing I-95 southbound loop ramps. The closing ramps are the off-ramp from I-95 southbound to Route 17 southbound, and on-ramp from Route 17 northbound to I-95 southbound.
Before 7:00 a.m. tomorrow, all I-95 southbound traffic seeking Route 17 northbound or southbound will use a single off-ramp. At the end of the ramp, motorists will have the choice to merge onto Route 17 northbound toward Warrenton, or use the temporary traffic signal to turn left onto Route 17 southbound toward Falmouth. Route 17 northbound traffic will turn left at the temporary signal to enter the I-95 southbound on-ramp.
The existing loops are being closed as crews to prepare to shift all I-95 southbound traffic to the new bridge over Route 17 next week as part of the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project. The new traffic pattern at Exit 133 will be in effect until the project is complete, which is expected to be in May 2022.
Drivers should anticipate major delays on I-95 northbound tonight near the Exit 133 interchange.
The I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project has scheduled lane closures and a traffic diversion on I-95 northbound to allow crews to move a crane across the travel lanes as they progress on building the new Truslow Road overpass.
The Truslow Road overpass, which is located at mile marker 134, is being replaced as part of the project to extend Express Lanes about 10 miles from the Exit 143 southern terminus point to Exit 133.
A single lane will close on I-95 northbound at 9:00 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10:00 p.m.
I-95 northbound traffic will then be reduced to a single lane then diverted into a temporary lane in the median. Motorists will then be shifted back to the travel lanes before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway).
Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control in the work zone.
