Multiple overnight lane closures will be in place this week for expansion joint repairs on Interstate 95 north at the Girard Avenue Interchange in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reports.
Now through Thursday August 25, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, I-95 north will be reduced from three through lanes to one between the Girard Avenue and Allegheny Avenue interchanges. Crews will be making permanent repairs to an expansion joint on the northbound viaduct over Lehigh Avenue. The expansion joint allows sections of concrete pavement to expand or contract safely during extreme heat (expand) or cold (contract).
Construction crews building the new I-95 north viaduct at the Girard Avenue Interchange will complete repairs or replacement of the joint. PennDOT maintenance forces will provide traffic control during the operation.
Drivers are advised to avoid I-95 north through the work zone, or allow extra time for travel in the area. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
