The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reports the following traffic impacts as a result of construction and maintenance work in the Fredericksburg area for the period from Sunday, January 28 to Saturday, February 3. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
I-95 Northbound and Southbound
Exit 104 (Carmel Church) and Exit 118 (Thornburg)
Monday – Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Mobile lane closures between mile markers 106-117 on I-95 northbound and southbound in Caroline County and Spotsylvania County for routine bridge safety inspections at the following overpasses: Route 605 (Paige Road), Route 639 (Ladysmith Road), Route 601 (Golansville Road), and Route 652 (Cool Water Drive).
Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) to Exit 118 (Thornburg)
Sunday – Thursday, 9:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m. Varying single and double lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound at mile marker 125-126 in Spotsylvania for construction on a new Route 17 (Mills Drive) interstate overpass. Single lane closure from 9-10 p.m. each night, followed by a double lane closure starting at 10:00 p.m. All lanes reopen by 5:00 a.m.
I-95 Northbound
Exit 130 (Route 3) to Exit 133 (Route 17)
Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single lane closure in the local and through travel lanes between mile markers 131-134 in the City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County for drainage work.
Exit 133 (Falmouth/Warrenton) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)
Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single lane closure between mile markers 134-135 in Stafford for 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension construction.
Exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville) to Exit 148 (Quantico)
Monday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Single lane closure between mile markers 146-148 in Stafford for 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension construction.
I-95 Southbound
Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville)
Wednesday – Thursday, 10:00 p.m. – 9:00 a.m. Varying single and double lane closures between mile markers 148-146 in Stafford for 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension construction, with a brief traffic slow roll between midnight – 3:00 a.m. Single lane closure only between 4:00 – 9:00 a.m.
Spotsylvania County
I-95 Southbound Exit 126 Off-Ramp and Route 1 Southbound
A second right turn lane is under construction from the I-95 southbound off-ramp at exit 126 onto Route 1 southbound. Route 1 southbound is being widened from the off-ramp to Southpoint Parkway with an additional turn lane. A second right turn lane is being added from Route 1 southbound to Southpoint Parkway. Traffic islands will be installed along Southpoint Parkway as a safety improvement to allow left turns into driveways but restrict through and left-turning traffic exiting from side streets. Additional right turn lane added to Southpoint Parkway to Route 1 southbound. Project completion in Aug. 2025.
