The Maine Turnpike Authority reports that starting at 12:01 AM on Wednesday, September 7th, the Maine Turnpike (I-95) southbound on ramp at Exit 47 (Rand Rd) in Portland will be closed. The closure is expected to last through 12:01 AM on Friday, September 9th. This ramp closure is necessary in order to reconstruct the ramp, including culverts and drainage infrastructure. The ramp will be paved and striped. All other ramps at Exit 47 will be open during this closure. Drivers are asked to use Exit 48 (Riverside Street) in Portland during the closure.
In addition, the Exit 47 southbound off ramp will be closed September 26th to 30th. Variable Message Boards are in place alerting drivers to the upcoming closures. All of the work is weather dependent. Drivers are urged to check the variable message boards and the MTA’s social media for updates.
This work is part of the Portland Area Widening project, adding a third travel lane in both directions from mile 46 to 49. The project was awarded to Shaw Brothers of Gorham, Maine and it is anticipated to be complete in the fall of 2023.
