Travel restrictions are scheduled on Interstate 95 at the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue Interchange and Cottman Avenue (Route 73) Interchange, where crews will perform work in preparation for shifting northbound I-95 traffic onto the reconstructed northbound lanes as early as next weekend, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reported.

These operations are associated with contracts underway to improve the ramp system at the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue Interchange and to rebuild and improve the Cottman Avenue Interchange and reconstruct and widen more than one mile of I-95 adjoining the interchange.

The upcoming work schedule is:

  • From 8:00 PM Friday, October 14, to 5:00 AM Monday, October 17, the Princeton Avenue on-ramp to I-95 north will be closed to complete the installation of a new sewer line that runs under Princeton Avenue; to remove the temporary sewer bypass line that was installed during construction; and to reconstruct Princeton Avenue east of State Road at the base of the entrance ramp. Motorists may access I-95 north by going north on State Road, right on Bleigh Avenue, then right on Milnor Street to the on-ramp, or follow the detour north on State Road, left on Linden Avenue, then right on the ramp to I-95 north at the Academy Road Interchange. This weekend-long operation was scheduled to occur this weekend, but was postponed due to scheduling conflicts.

In addition, I-95 viaduct construction will close two surface streets in the vicinity of the Girard Avenue Interchange during the day next week.

Girard Avenue at the I-95 overpass will close on Thursday, October 13, and Friday, October 14, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and the northbound detour road (Allen Street) between Richmond Street and Allegheny Avenue will close Wednesday, October 12, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Traffic normally using the detour road to access the on-ramp to I-95 north at Castor Avenue will be detoured north on Richmond Street and right on Castor Avenue to the on-ramp.
