Periodic overnight lane and ramp restrictions will be in place next week on Interstate 95 between the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue interchanges in Philadelphia for soil borings, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.
The schedule is:
- Sunday, February 4, through Friday, February 9, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the left lane will be closed periodically on northbound I-95 between the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue and Bridge Street interchanges for soil borings in the median;
- Monday, February 5, through Friday, February 9, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, alternating right lane closures will be in place on northbound or southbound I-95 between the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue interchanges for soil borings in the shoulder; and
- Monday, February 5, through Friday, February 9, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions will be in place periodically on the northbound I-95 ramp to Aramingo Avenue and on the ramp from the Betsy Ross Bridge to southbound I-95 for soil borings.
In addition, Monday, February 5, through Friday, February 9, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, southbound Richmond Street will be closed to through traffic between Ann Street and Allegheny Avenue for gas line installation. Southbound traffic will be detoured west on Allegheny Avenue and south on Aramingo Avenue.
On Monday, February 5, through Friday, February 9, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, northbound Richmond Street will be closed to through traffic for gas line installation between Westmoreland Street and Tioga Street. Northbound traffic will be detoured east on Allegheny Avenue, north on Delaware Avenue and west on Castor Avenue.
The soil borings are part of the advance engineering activities related to upcoming reconstruction of I-95 at Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue and Bridge Street interchanges.
The gas line installation is being done in advance of construction that will begin later in 2018 to reconstruct and improve Richmond Street between Ann Street and Westmoreland Street.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on I-95 and Richmond Street through the work areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
