The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) announced that on Sunday, October 28 it will begin a phase of bridge painting on the bridge carrying Route 10 over I-95 in Cranston. This work will require a partial closure of the interchange during late night and overnight hours.
RIDOT chose the closure times – Sunday through Thursday nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. – when traffic volumes are lightest to minimize the impact to travelers. Motorists should plan ahead and provide additional travel time. The work will be ongoing through mid-November.
The steel repairs will require the closure of a portion of the access road off I-95 South Exit 16B. The ramp to Route 10 South toward Park Avenue (Route 12) will be closed, as well as the on-ramp from Route 10 North to I-95 South. Exit 16B will be open for access to Route 10 North.
Those on I-95 South seeking to go to Route 10 South will follow a detour using Route 10 North to the Reservoir Avenue (Exit 3) interchange to reverse direction on Route 10. Likewise, traffic on Route 10 North coming from Park Avenue or Elmwood Avenue will need to use the Reservoir Avenue exit to get on Route 10 South to link up with the I-95 South ramp.
These repairs are part of a $7.3 million project to perform steel repairs, bridge washing and bridge painting for 25 bridges along the I-95 Corridor from Warwick to Providence. Work on all bridges under this project will conclude by the end of this year.
