The North Carolina Department of Transportation reports that, because of an emergency culvert repair on Interstate 95 in South Carolina, southbound motorists should expect delays south of Lumberton.
The S.C. Department of Transportation closed the interstate’s right southbound lane today at Exit 186, which is south of the state line, to allow workers to safely install a concrete barrier. The lane is expected to be closed for at least one day, South Carolina officials said in a news release.
Other stretches of I-95 southbound in North Carolina have been congested today as those who evacuated ahead of Hurricane Irma return southward. To ease the congestion, the N.C. Department of Transportation has suspended lane closures during the day for the southbound lanes of Interstates 95 and 77 and the eastbound lanes of I-26.
