Starting Sunday night, June 23, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will begin a series of overnight temporary closures of Exit 22 B/C on I-95 North in Providence. The closures will continue Sunday through Thursday nights from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., through late July.
Motorists will follow a short, two-mile detour using Exit 23 (State Offices/Route 146.) This will allow RIDOT to repair bridge joints and replace bridge railings, along with other repair work. Exit 22A to Downtown/Memorial Boulevard will remain open.
Turn by turn detour direction are as follows:
I-95 North to Exit 23 (State Offices/Route 146); Turn right onto Orms Street; Turn right onto Douglas Avenue; Turn right onto the on-ramp to I-95 South; Take I-95 South to Exit 22B (Route 6 West)
This work is part of a seven-bridge, $10.4 million bridge preservation project. Final completion for the project is scheduled for spring 2021.
All construction projects are subject to changes in schedule and scope depending on needs, circumstances, findings, and weather.
