The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) will begin nighttime operations on the southbound lanes of I-95 in Portsmouth beginning Tuesday, April 15, 2025. This project will involve the realignment of the portable concrete barriers along the right shoulder, extending from the Exit 4 on-ramp (mile marker 13.6) to the Exit 3A off-ramp (mile marker 13.0). Consequently, the shoulder width will be reduced from 8 feet to 2 feet for a period of approximately six months.

Simultaneously, work on the northbound I-95 will start from the Exit 5 on-ramp (mile marker 14.6) to the Exit 7 off-ramp (mile marker 15.0), focusing on the removal of the portable concrete barrier from the shoulder.

I-95 Work Schedule

Subject to favorable weather conditions, these operations are scheduled to occur between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM. The execution of this project necessitates lane closures: on the southbound I-95, the right lane and shoulder will be closed from the Exit 4 on-ramp to the Exit 3A off-ramp, and on the northbound I-95, the closures will extend from the Exit 5 on-ramp to the Exit 7 off-ramp.

For optimal traffic management and public awareness, message boards, uniformed officers, traffic control devices, and advanced smart work zone technologies will be employed.

This work is an integral part of constructing two sound abatement walls and a privacy fence along Interstate 95 in Portsmouth. the $18.7 million project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2025.
