The North Carolina Department of Transportation reports that I-95 construction bridge work will require nighttime closures in both directions between mile marker 121 and 127, the U.S. 264 and N.C. 97 exits, in Wilson County. The closures will take place from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights, beginning as soon as Thursday, Dec. 1, weather permitting. The work is expected to take about three weeks to complete.
The work is to raise the approach slabs at the bridge, which have settled over time and caused height difference between the slab and bridge. Raising the slabs will provide a smoother ride for motorists.
Signed detours associated with this I-95 construction project will be in place to route traffic around the closures:
- Southbound traffic will be routed off I-95 at Exit 127 (N.C. 97). Traffic will then take N.C. 58 to Airport Road to U.S. 264 Alternate to get back on to I-95 South at Exit 121.
- Northbound traffic will be routed off I-95 at Exit 121 (U.S 264 Alternate). Traffic will then take Airport Road to N.C. 58, to N.C. 97 to get back on to I-95 North at Exit 127.
If the contractor is not able to complete the work prior to Dec. 22, work will not resume until Jan. 3, to accommodate holiday travel.
This I-95 construction project is the first of five bridge projects in this area that will be improved. Information will distributed as work is scheduled on the other bridges.
