The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reports that bridge repair will occur at night next week on I-95 in Philadelphia under a $37.4 million project to perform high-priority repairs on 27 I-95 bridges in the City, to maintain the functionality, safety, and mobility of the structures along this critical corridor.
I-95 Travel Restrictions:
- Monday, July 29, and Wednesday, July 31, through Friday, August 2, a single lane closure will be in place at 9:00 PM, followed by a double lane closure at 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM on northbound I-95 between Bleigh Avenue and Ashburner Street for line striping and reflector installation.
- Monday, July 29, through Friday, August 2, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure will be in place on the ramp from southbound I-95 at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchanges for bridge repair.
- Tuesday, July 30, and Friday, August 2, a single lane closure will be in place at 9:00 PM, followed by a double lane closure at 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM on southbound I-95 between Ashburner Street and Bleigh Avenue for reflector installation.
Plan Ahead for I-95 Delays
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Under this contract, PennDOT’s contractor will make repairs to the deteriorated bridge decks, superstructure components, and portions of the substructures as needed.
In addition to bridge repairs, 11 overhead steel sign structures will be cleaned and repainted. Existing roadway lighting will also be upgraded to LED luminaires.
This project is expected to be completed in late 2027.
