In preparation for the upcoming Labor Day weekend surge in traffic, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced a temporary suspension of all lane closures across Georgia’s interstates and state routes.
Effective from Friday at noon through Tuesday at 5:00 a.m., this initiative aims to facilitate smoother travel experiences for motorists during this peak period.
While construction-related lane closures will be halted, GDOT emphasizes the importance of remaining vigilant on the roads. It advises travelers to exercise caution as maintenance crews may still be active near highways, ensuring ongoing safety measures despite the suspension of major construction activities.
GDOT underscores that certain long-term lane closures may remain in effect due to safety considerations. Moreover, emergency or maintenance-related closures may be implemented as necessary to address unforeseen incidents.
This proactive approach by GDOT aims to enhance roadway safety and optimize travel conditions for the holiday weekend, promoting a secure and efficient transportation environment across Georgia.
