Expect Overnight Delays on I-95 This Week in Fredericksburg

Motorists should anticipate overnight travel delays and double lane closures on Interstate 95 northbound and southbound this week in the Fredericksburg area beginning tonight, Sept. 25 through early Saturday, Sept. 30.

The following lane closures are planned, weather permitting:

Monday, Sept. 25 ˗˗ Friday, Sept. 29 (ending at 6 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30)

I-95 SOUTHBOUND:

Potomac Creek Bridge (mile marker 137) Stafford County

  • Monday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.
    • A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. at the Potomac Creek bridge for a bridge rehabilitation project. The bridge is located at mile marker 137, just before Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway). Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. each morning. A single lane will remain closed at the bridge until 10 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m.
    • A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed at the bridge until 6 a.m. Friday.

American Legion Bridge (mile marker 138) Stafford County

  • Monday ˗˗ Tuesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 7 a.m.
    • A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. at the American Legion bridge over I-95 to allow crews to make repairs to the overpass. The bridge is located at mile marker 138, which is in between Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and Exit 140 (Courthouse Road). Double lane closures will end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 7 a.m. Tuesday.
      Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg)
  • Monday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m.
    • The Exit 130 off-ramp will be reduced to a single lane from I-95 southbound to westbound Route 3 at Carl D. Silver Parkway for storm sewer installation, as part of the I-95 interchange safety improvement project. All lanes will reopen on Friday at 6 a.m.

Ni River Bridge (mile marker 121) Spotsylvania County

  • Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m.
    • A single lane will close at 9 p.m. at the Ni River bridge followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. as crews continue a bridge improvement project. The Ni River bridge is located at mile marker 121, just south of Exit 126/Massaponax.
  • Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m.
    • A single lane will close at 10 p.m. at the Ni River Bridge followed by a double lane closure at midnight until 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 6 a.m. Saturday.

I-95 NORTHBOUND:

American Legion Bridge (mile marker 138) Stafford County

  • Wednesday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.
    • A single lane will close at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. at the American Legion bridge over I-95 to allow crews to make repairs to the overpass. The bridge is located at mile marker 138, which is in between Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and Exit 140 (Courthouse Road). All lanes will reopen at 4:30 a.m.

Ni River Bridge (mile marker 121) Spotsylvania County

  • Monday ˗˗ Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.
    • A single lane will close at 9 p.m. at the Ni River bridge followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. as crews continue a bridge improvement project. The Ni River bridge is located at mile marker 121, just south of Exit 126/Massaponax.
  • Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.
    • A single lane will close at 10 p.m. at the Ni River Bridge followed by a double lane closure at midnight until 4:30 a.m. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
      Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control and monitor traffic conditions with all the work zones.

Message boards will warn travelers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and possible delays.

Drivers may use Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway) as an alternate route.
