Expect Midday and Overnight Delays on I-95 in Fredericksburg

The Virginia Department of Transportation reports that motorists should anticipate midday and overnight delays on Interstate 95 northbound and southbound for multiple work zones this week in the Fredericksburg area.

The following lane closures are planned, weather permitting:

I-95 Southbound

  • I-95, Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road) Stafford County
    • Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m.
      A single, right lane will be closed near Exit 140 to allow crews to install temporary concrete barrier and crash cushions near the interchange as part of the project to build a diverging diamond.
  • I-95, Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth)
    • Thru Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m.
      Expect alternating, single lane closures on both I-95 bridges over Route 17 to allow crews to inspect bridges.
  • I-95, Exit 130B (Route 3/Fredericksburg)
    • Thursday ˗˗ Friday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m.
      The Exit 130 off-ramp will be reduced to a single lane from I-95 southbound to westbound Route 3 for water and sewer line work as part of the I-95 interchange safety improvement project.
  • Ni River Bridge (mile marker 121) Spotsylvania County
    • Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 10 a.m.
      A single lane will close at 9 p.m. at the Ni River bridge followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. as crews continue a bridge improvement project. The Ni River bridge is located at mile marker 121, just south of Exit 126/Massaponax.
    • Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 6 a.m.
      A single lane will close at 10 p.m. at the Ni River Bridge followed by a double lane closure at midnight till 4:30 a.m. A single lane will close until 6 a.m. Saturday.

I-95 Northbound

  • Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth)
    • Thru Friday, 9 a.m. ˗˗ 3:30 p.m.
      Expect alternating, single lane closures on both I-95 bridges over Route 17 to allow crews to inspect bridges.
  • Ni River Bridge (mile marker 121) Spotsylvania County

    • Thursday, 9 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.

      A single lane will close at 9 p.m. at the Ni River bridge followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. Double lane closures end at 4:30 a.m. A single lane will remain closed until 10 a.m. as crews continue a bridge improvement project.

    • Friday, 10 p.m. ˗˗ 4:30 a.m.
      A single lane will close at 10 p.m. at the Ni River Bridge followed by a double lane closure at midnight until 4:30 a.m. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control and monitor traffic conditions near the work zones.

Message boards will warn travelers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and possible delays.
