The Virginia Department of Transportation has adjusted this week’s schedule for double lane closures on Interstate 95 in the Fredericksburg area due to inclement weather.

Motorists can still anticipate overnight travel delays and lane closures on Tuesday, Jan. 24 and Wednesday, Jan. 25.

I-95 construction lane closures scheduled for tonight were canceled due to rain.

Beginning Tuesday night, crews will install new guardrail and remove temporary construction barriers at the new Fall Hill Avenue overpass, which is located at mile marker 131 in Fredericksburg.

Crews will also continue with scheduled maintenance work on Wednesday, Jan. 25 on I-95 southbound near Route 17 in Stafford County, which will require a double lane closure.

Bridge deck repairs are needed on the I-95 southbound bridge over Route 17 near Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth). Crews need to replace temporary asphalt patches on the bridge deck with concrete to provide a smoother, more durable travel surface and avoid potholes.

Lanes on I-95 will be closed on the following schedule, weather permitting:

Tuesday, Jan. 24

I˗95 Southbound at mile marker 131 (Fall Hill Avenue)

  • Single lane closure at 9:30 p.m.
  • Double lane closure at 10 p.m.
  • All lanes re-open to traffic by 5 a.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 25

I-95 Northbound at mile marker 131 (Fall Hill Avenue)

  • Single lane closure at 9 p.m.
  • Double lane closure at 10 p.m.
  • All lanes re-open to traffic by 4:30 a.m.

I-95 Southbound at mile marker 135, near Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth)

  • Single lane closure at 9 p.m.
  • Double lane closure at 10 p.m.
  • All lanes re-open to traffic by 6 a.m.

Message boards will warn travelers to stay alert for work zones ahead and possible delays.
