The Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Office of Engineering is developing plans to construct an auxiliary lane on I-95 between Exit 6 and Exit 7 in the southbound direction in Stamford. This project also proposes to rehabilitate the existing pavement, rehabilitate bridges and address roadside safety between Bridge 00023 (I-95 over West Avenue) and Bridge 00026 (I-95 over Greenwich Avenue).
The purpose of the project is to provide operational benefits and alleviate congestion in the southbound direction between exit 6 and 7. The secondary purpose of this project is to rehabilitate the pavement, address roadside safety and perform bridge rehabilitation to extend the service life of the facility in both directions.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in November 2022, with construction anticipated to start in the summer of 2023, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with 90% federal and 10% state funds.
It is the Department’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with the Department to assist in the project’s development. A public informational meeting will be conducted upon the completion of the preliminary design.
