The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to replace signs and sign supports along Interstate 95 (Clinton to New London), including on and off ramps. The new signs and sign support will be installed in accordance with the latest Federal and State standards and guidelines. The types of signs that will be replaced include, but are not limited to, large overhead and side mounted guide signs.
The existing signs have exceeded their useful service life and are in need of replacement. The scope of the project involves the replacement of only those signs that have exceeded their useful life, have less than adequate retro reflectivity, have evidence of damage, or are no longer in accordance with the latest Federal and State standards and guidelines. Excluded from this project are signs that have been recently replaced or are scheduled to be replaced by other various construction projects.
“Replacing the signs improves visibility and legibility for drivers, making the signs easier to see at night,” said CTDOT Project Manager Barry Schilling.
It is CTDOT’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development. At this time, however, it is not anticipated that an informational meeting or formal public hearing will be necessary.
The design plans for the project are expected to be completed in the summer of 2024 with construction commencing in 2025.
