The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to provide improvements on I-95 southbound, at Interchanges 71 and 72 in Old Lyme and East Lyme.
The project involves eliminating the short weaving section by combining and relocating Exit 71 and 72 off-ramps, approximately 1,450-feet north of the existing Exit 72 location. The realigned off-ramp will form a new intersection with Rocky Neck Connector. Access to 4 Mile River Rd. and I-95 Southbound will be provided from the new intersection.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in the Fall of 2027, with construction anticipated to start in the Spring of 2028, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits.
