The North Carolina Department of Transportation proposes to completely reconstruct the interchange of I-95 at U.S. 701 and N.C. 96 (Exit 90) near Four Oaks.

Although it at first may appear to be counter productive, reconstruction may include up to 4 separate roundabouts to simplify the complexity of the road system once you leave the interstate.

Roundabouts will provide more order, by allowing the traffic to move through the intersections without stopping. Roundabouts slow traffic down and will provide better site distance, as the traffic flows through the area.

The North Carolina DOT estimates that rebuilding the interchange is estimated to cost approximately $23.7 million, which includes planning and right-of-way. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2022 and be completed in 2024.
