The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that bridge demolition will continue next week on the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge over the east side of Columbus Boulevard at Penn’s Landing in Center City Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

  • Monday, December 4, through Thursday, December 7, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, the ramp at Lombard Circle and Columbus Boulevard to northbound I-95 will be closed and detoured. Traffic will be directed to the northbound I-95 ramp from Columbus Boulevard near Catherine Street; and
  • Monday, December 4, through Thursday, December 7, a single lane closure will be in place beginning at 7:30 PM, followed by a double lane closure from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning on northbound I-95 between South Street and Market Street.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel through or near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. The schedule is weather dependent.

The lane ramp closures are needed for the demolition of the Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge over I-95 and Columbus Boulevard under PennDOT’s $329 million I-95/CAP project to replace, expand and improve the existing covered section of I-95 and improve multi-modal connections between Center City and the Delaware River waterfront.
