The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that construction is scheduled on northbound I-95 in Northeast Philadelphia to set up a new traffic pattern under PennDOT’s I-95/BS2 project.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

  • Wednesday, May 15 through Friday, May 17, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, alternating single and double lane closures will be in place on northbound I-95 between the Bridge Street and Cottman Avenue interchanges.

Thursday, May 16, from 10:00 PM to 12:00 AM, the northbound I-95 on-ramp at Bridge Street will be closed. Motorists will detour north on Tacony Street to the Cottman Avenue on-ramp.

Monday, May 20, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a left lane closure will be in place on southbound I-95 between the Bridge Street and Betsy Ross Bridge interchanges.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. This operation is weather dependent.

The northbound traffic shift is the start of the next phase of PennDOT’s $268 million I-95/BS2 project. A new pattern on the southbound side is expected to be in place in early June. When the new patterns are in place, three lanes of traffic will be traveling on the existing northbound lanes and median while the southbound side is reconstructed from Carver to Margaret streets.
