The Maine DOT, Maine Turnpike Authority and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation are collaborating to make necessary improvements to the iconic Piscataqua River Bridge. While there has been minimal disruption over this past summer, there is now a need to close Exit 1 in Maine and the Exit 7 northbound on-ramp from Market Street in New Hampshire.

Safety is a top priority and that is why there is a need to close these ramps for an extended period.

As the project expands, the lane and shoulder restrictions on the bridge approaches leave less room for traffic to safely use these on and off ramps.

While closures create inconveniences, drivers and residents must understand that these changes are necessary to ensure the safety of both the traveling public and construction crews.

Please remember to drive carefully on the detour routes and observe work zone speed limits. Construction is weather-dependent, so this schedule may change.

Closure Information:

  • Exit 7 – Northbound On-Ramp for Market Street in Portsmouth thru May 14, 2020.
    • Detour: Take Exit 7 Southbound On-Ramp. Head south on I-95 to the Portsmouth Traffic Circle at Exit 5 to access I-95 northbound.
  • Exit 1 – Northbound Off-Ramp to Kittery thru October 1, 2021.
  • Exit 1 – Southbound On-Rampfrom Kittery thru October 1, 2021.

Truck detour for I-95 northbound on-ramp at Exit 7: Head east on Market Street to Submarine Way. Take a left onto US Route 1 Bypass over the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge. Follow signs to the I-95 northbound on-ramp at Exit 3.
