Location: I-95, exit 49 – Darien, Georgia
Traveling south along I-95 on our way through Georgia at exit 49 we stumbled upon Smokey Joe’s BBQ tucked in between two hotels. It’s a little log cabin looking bbq joint with excellent bbq pork sandwich chopped with a choice of 2 bbq sauces you put on your self and priced at $5.50. It comes with 1 side. We chose the sweet potato fries that were really good. It comes with sweet cinnamon butter. The sweet tea was great and the kids meals were around $3.50. The turkey was good also and came with 1 side.
This place was very clean! We will definitely be stopping here again and are planning on making it a regular stop on our way through. We live in south Florida and our pork sandwiches don’t even come close to tasting this good!
Good food, but make sure if you order takeout, to check they did it right.
I found Smokey Joe’s traveling from SC to AL. They have the best BBQ I have ever had. I will be making the trip to Darien just to eat there again!
We stumbled upon this place by accident but it was really wonderful. Clean, friendly, lots of locals, and no more than a block west of I-95. The pork sandwich, vegetables and sweet potato fries were great.
My family and I stumbled upon this place by accident. We were driving home from Disney and needed to eat dinner. We prefer to dine at local eateries, as we have the typical chain restaurants here in Philly. We found the place to be very clean and VERY good. Excellent BBQ for an excellent price. It is now on our must stop at list when we drive to Disney.
Awesome Brunswick Stew. Nothing better. Owners are in the restaurant everyday. Quality is consistently excellent. Sauces are very good and offer wide variety of taste. Sweet pototoe fries to die for. Worth getting off the interstate or driving from south Georgia.
We also found this by accident looking for a “local” place rather than a chain restaurant when traeling from Florida to PA. We were thrilled and plan to stop again on our next trip to Florida!!!
We were on our way back to Pa from Disney and made a stop at Smokey Joe’s just to find out that they are closed! Not sure what happened to them. We stopped there last year and the food was great.
I found this place in 2009 and loved it. They made a great brisket, ribs where delicious and the sausage very good. The sweet potato fries where the best I have had. I stopped there every time I drove thru for dinner and had to take out brisket for later. I am sad to find out they have closed. If they have relocated please be kind enough to contact me at “[email protected]”. I will travel to where ever they have gone. Loved the food the waitresses where great and loved the picnic tables outside where I could sit outside with my lab and treat him to a great dinner too.
