Leaving Connecticut early in the morning and traveling down I-95, we always hit Delaware around lunchtime. A year or two ago we found Smiley’s Diner in Newark, Delaware and have made it a regular stop since then.
Smiley’s is located just a minute or two off I-95, exit 3 on Christiana Road, just after the Motel 6, and on your left. There’s a friendly, family atmosphere here. We are always promptly greeted and seated quickly. The variety on the menu is impressive and the prices aren’t too bad either.
We are creatures of habit and usually stick to pretty much the same items every time we come here. I get the Philly Cheese Steak and my wife gets the Reuben. Now, let me mention right off the bat… the prices do seem a little on the high side when you first see the menu, but the quality and the portion size make up for it. You definitely won’t leave hungry.
All in all, a great diner with excellent service and well worth the price… and just a minute off of I-95. See you there!
