This Roanoke Rapids I-95 exit is a regular stop for us on the way to Georgia, but it’s the first time we’ve tried Highway 55 Burgers, Shakes $ Fries. At first glance it appears to be a typical fast food joint, but that’s where it ends. The inside has a retro diner atmosphere and, unlike a chain fast food restaurant, you choose your table and they immediately bring you a menu.
The staff, food and prices are surprisingly good. We ordered burgers and fries and they were brought to our table quickly and piping hot. The portions were substantial and we the food was delicious.
This makes a great lunch stop if you’re traveling Interstate 95. We’ll probably stop here again on the way back.

Highway 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries is actually a small chain of restaurants located primarily in the southeast. We’ve been to several of them and they are all consistently good.
