Location: I-95 Exit 180, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina
The building literally looks like it is about to fall down and the drive-in menu is hand lettered.
The food was great and cheap. I think it is only open from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM with breakfast served until 11:00 AM. It’s the real thing with a huge pork BBQ sandwich, side and tea for under $4.00. Most dinners are under $6.00 with over 15 choices on vegetables. I wanted to try a bologna burger or fatback and grits but was a little leary.
Stop by for a cultural experience. It’s next to a McDonalds but the Abner’s sign has fallen down so just check your GPS.
All of the above is true but they have some of the best food around, particulary breakfast…the biscuits are homemade and well worth the wait…
Update: The drive-in window now has has a lettered sign. Stopped by last week to see if it was still opened and it is. Best biscuits and scrambled eggs that I have ever tasted. Still no Abner’s sign… just follow the work trucks as that is where they are all headed for breakfast.
