Maine to Florida’s West Coast
I did’nt get out of Central Maine until 2:30 PM on Saturday for the trip to Florida. I was all nervous and jerky about the Bronx traffic before Yankees-Red Sox game, however, I ended up catching the back end of traffic, as I travel the Cross Bronx around 8:00 PM, after the Sox-Yankees game.
The original plan was for a mid-morning departure on Saturday, but I figured a 2:30 PM departure would be perfect for getting thru the Bronx. I was slightly off. Most of the traffic jam could have been rectified by someone removing traffic cones about 3 miles prior to the George Washington Bridge… cones in the right hand lane and no accident or construction, just a regular DOT, private contractor or Public Works deal.
I arrived in Northern VA at 1:00 AM and got into the first I-95 rest area for some nap time. I sleep from 1:30 AM – 5:30 AM. Now, that’s a good siesta. I must have been assisted by the Sudafed taken around 5:30 PM near Worcester, Ma. to keep me awake and the nasal passages clear. Nice crash. The Maine pharmacist suggested Sudafed after I asked where was the ‘good’ Dayquil. All the ‘good’ stuff behind the counter now.
I Made it to Santee, South Carolina for golf at 12:30 PM. However, Santee National was full. They told me that I could not get on course until after 2:00 PM. I thanked them and bid a fond farewell.
I traveled 2 more hours to Brunswick, Georgia and stopped at exit 38 to stay at a Holiday Inn. If you are willing to drop a C note for a nights lodging on I-95 then this is the place. It’s a nice hotel, with a pool, and a restaurant and lounge. The food was spectacular and believe it or not, the Holiday Inn restaurant was full. I am not not a beef eater, but the stuff coming out of the kitchen almost switched me. Fine looking presentations!
I was on the road by 6:00 AM on Monday and make it to the west coast of Florida by 11:00 AM.
