The Smokey Pig Restaurant

Location: I-95, exit 92 - Ashland, Virginia

If you’re looking for a nice restaurant that serves great prime rib or ribs, Smokey Pig is the place. It is located in Ashland, less than 1/4 mile west of I-95. This place is hog heaven! When you enter you’ll be greeted by just about every pig curio that has ever been made… pig shirts, earrings, hats, jewelry and statues and in the waiting room which is inside the restaurant. The covered waiting room holds about 50 people. You’ll find that on weekends the waiting room is full! Most waits are less than one hour. The food is well worth the wait. They are closed on Mondays.

Old Country Buffet

Old Country Buffet is the king of all buffets… besides Captain George’s seafood buffet in Virginia Beach. A friend and I went in a few months ago and were jaws dropped staring at all the beautiful yumminess. I had tacos, chicken and dumplings, salad, desserts, soup, ice cream, lasagna… and probably more I can’t remember. The taco shells were a little stale… and that is my only complaint.

Master McGrath’s

We stay at the Best Western across the street from Master McGrath’s and usually eat there at least once during our stay. We have always loved the food and the service. We especially like it when the older gentleman, who has been there forever, waits on us. He is old school and is a joy to have him attend our table. The Pub is also good and more relaxed, always a fun crowd at the bar and if you don’t like to sit at the bar, there are booths. Sometimes there is entertainment which is a added plus. We have tried many places to eat around this area, but we keep going back t o Mcgrath’s.

Dent’s Seafood

Location: I-95 Exit 150 Triangle, Virginia

When you’re driving through Virginia, check out Dent’s Seafood. It’s easily accessible from the Triangle/Quantico exit (150, I believe). It’s a small, mom & pop kind of place that serves great grilled and fried seafood… and you can pick up fresh fish to prepare at home. They have good prices, too.
