Jimmy’s Seafood

Location: I-95 Exit 45 (southbound), or Exit 44, West Haven, Connecticut

The best fried seafood ever is at Jimmy’s, a couple of miles off I-95 in West Haven Conn (exit 45?, Conn. Turnpike). It is the last vestige of an old amusement park, Savin Rock (long since demolished), on Long Island Sound. Sit-down dining, but casual. It gets busy on weekends after 6:00 PM. Well worth the stop.

Carl’s Ice Cream

You may want to add a local favorite in the Fredricksburg VA area. Carl’s ice cream, serving homemade soft ice cream, was featured in the great PBS special “The Ice Cream Show.” It is on a road just south and east of the Rt. 1 bridge over the Rapahannock River, but I cannot remember the street/route name. A rare gem, local color and terrific ice cream.

Joe Don Danny’s

Location: I-95 Exit 31, Raeford, North Carolina

As I was traveling south along I-95, I stopped about 29 miles north of South Carolina, at exit 31 in North Carolina. I had the priviledge of getting an evening meal (carry out) and eating breakfast the next morning (ate in the restaurant). The name of the place was Joe Don Dannys-Auto/truckstop. It is open 24 hours, and the food is wonderful, and the prices are very reasonable. The owners and workers there were very hospitable and friendly. I would highly recommend stopping at this restaurant every time through the area. I definitely plan on stopping there everytime I drive through the area.

Joe Don Danny’s is open 24 hours, and they are located across the street from the Days Inn (Which was a great place for lodging). I believe everyone will enjoy the service and decor and friendliness.
